I think boys DO buy into it. Like they're always saying "she's tall, she's scary" about me. YES, I'm tall, SO WHAT????? Just because I'm not "model tall" doesn't make me any different! They always go on about Playboy and Bunnies...I mean, COME ON, that magazine is so degrading! Oh, wait, they ARE degrading.
I don't have any comebacks, because I don't need them. They've figured out that I'm taller, which means all the better to threaten them...:)

But you know what? It's not only girls who suffer from the media. They do to. They feel the need to be "macho". (Hmm,could that be why they hate me? Because I'm taller then them?)So, maybe we ALL get pressure! (But at least *I* don't make comments about their hair...)

Do you know guys who buy into the hype about stars and models?
practically every guy buys into the hype. i want to be with someone who sees through it and values real women who has her own mind and isn't afraid of being who she is and isn't afraid of separating herself from what the media tells her she should look like. pretty much all the guys i know buy into it. but i'll admit that i do the same thing to guys, which i am working on to stop. us girls do the same thing -- oo, did you see his abs? or did you see that guy - he was sooo hot! i'm sure we make guys feel insecure too. and also, i'll admit that i do that because guys do it to us and make us feel inferior - but i guess that doesn't make it right.
Does it make you feel less valuable or desirable than models, actresses, celebutantes pop stars and those who look like them?
yea, but we all just have to remember that looking a certain way doesn't make one person better than the other or should make one person inferior to another. after all, who decides what is beautiful and what isn't? we shoudln't give the media so much power. let's live by and make our OWN standards.
Do you have some of your own snappy comebacks that have worked in conversations to show guys that looks and labels don’t define female beauty and desirability?
no, but i need some!

Miranda

My boyfriend is great. He doesn't care how much I fit "the look." But his friends do. They've repeatedly asked him "Why are you going out with her? She's not hot." This so shallow! It certainly makes me feel less than perfect, because if I had "the look" than they wouldn't be criticizing him for going out with me. But kudos to my boyfriend for ignoring the comments!

Amanda

Guys who buy the hype are making a bad decision.

What if they have a girlfriend who they don't know has annorexia???

One minute she's throwing up after their date,
the next minute she dies of starvation.

Its all such a joke. Why even bother to be annorexic over some guy when you can be you.

Trust me, no guy wants a skeleton for a girlfriend. But at the same time, nobody wants a ballon either.

So what is real beauty???

Answer: Yourself. If a guy doesn't like you how you are, then he's a jerk. I think that guys who believe the hype is just God's way of saying that they should just be gay.

If a boy believes in the hype, THEN WHY WASTE YOUR TIME? BOYS WHO WILL IGNORE YOU IF YOU ARE NOT A TOOTHPICK ARE A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. Sure they are hot, but if they are not gonna see anyone without them being almost 2D, why bother?

Kylie

I am always asking myself what am I doing wrong??? Not that I am completely ugly, or fat, or skinny, or pretty... I am just in between... And I can't seem to get any guy to notice me.
And that is the problem,I think it's me.
I learned over time that guys do follow the image of the stars and models. It's not my fault that they don't look at me, it's just they are so busy trying to get with the fake girls that they don't see that they are fake.
But really if you think about it, girls follow the hype too, I find myself being attract to the "HOT" guys who are usually jerks just because we follow the models and stars images also.
So I think we just need to find a happy median where we realize that not everybody looks like models but we need to look what is inside because I think everybody in a certain way follows the hype.

tahli

So many guys buy into this! They look through the magazines with dozens pics of girls in their underwear(stupid magazines!) and discuss how hot they are!
I know these guys are jerks and there are real guys out there (just difficult to find :P), so I don't feel pressured a single bit by them. I'm happy with the way I am.
I used to ignore these guys, because they wouldn't believe anything I said anyway, and they weren't very friendly. Now I don't hang around them.

Sage

I know some boys that fall for the hype, but most of them don't.

Maybe I do feel a little unwanted but lots of boys are friends with me. I'm a person that mostly like boys as friends.(not boyfriends!)

I really just say "just becuase those girls are perty don't mean they have a good personality".

Yvonne

I have some guy friends who totally fall for these airbrushed models. i mean, they dont have the developed brain to understand that the look is not real! but not all guys are like that. i have a botfriend who likes me for who i am. and i like that.

athena

i think boys are stupit i am now 10 and i haven't had a boyfriend but my cousin does modeling and she gets lots of dates
i think they just date her for her looks

CJ

I agree with Yvonne!Besides if the boy is right for you, he will like you for the way you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
