Don't Believe The Hype

Blonde.... and thin I guess, too, which sadly led Jamie to develop an eating disorder (more on that here.)

Luckily she's doing better now (yay Meadow!) but I wish I could get five minutes with the editor of Life & Style to be like "Why would you run that quote next to a smiling photo of Jamie Lynn? What's the reader supposed to take away from that? Are they supposed to be like 'Bahhh. Jamie! Only a fool would think such things!'...and then turn the page to see a zillion Hollywood starlets and popstars and models being lauded on the magazine's pages for having that look. Or are readers supposed to be like "Word, Jamie. I used to think the same thing..." or maybe they still do.

Either way, it's just another thing out there that equate blonde with beauty....

What's Celeb Hype like in the Far East?

Glad you asked... cause I am about to find out. I'm going on a combined business trip/vacation to Hong Kong and other points and plan to report back in full (with photos!) about how other cultures are coping with, drowning in and FIGHTING the hype....

Maybe that's true... but comments like that make me want to sit her down and be like:

"Si--can I call you Si?-- I don't where you came from before that really bad Alfie film that suddenly made you an A-list actress the way Liz Hurley suddenly became a "supermodel" even though none of us had ever heard of her before, but chances are you've probably noticed that there's way too much emphasis on being thin in our culture... and yes, I did say "our culture" because even though you are from LUNDIN, the look that prevales there, Hollywood, New York, St.Tropez, Malibu, wherever Posh Spice is knows no bounds."

"There's nothing wrong with being thin," I'd continue... "I happen to be naturally that way m'self. BUT hell woman, don't you get it?! Comments like yours not only reinforce the idea that thin is the best and most desirable way to be, and they also stoke a whole anti-sisterhood vibe because you are positioning yourself as someone who is the way every woman wants to be without any effort. And why would you want to do that to your sisters?"

And then I'd say, "So get with the program wouldja?"

As if Nicole Ritchie eats M&Ms

Apparently down under in Australia there's a big M&M marketing campaign featuring a "Miss Green" ...which capitalizes on the natural celeb tie in between green and chocolate candies and hot chicks. (Actually, is this campaign running here, too? I've been watching too many episodes of Season One of Lost to notice, oh, just about anything).

Anyhoo...

Miss Green was supposed to be Nicole Ritchie, but since she continues to prove that nary an M&M crosses her lips, she's being dropped and replaced by Pamela Anderson. (Cause when I think bite sized chocolates, I think PAM.) Not really sure what to make of their replacement choice, but it is interesting that M&M doesn't want a stick thin celebrity hawking their products.
