(That was my homage to "Hips Don't Lie"... love that song btw)
Why can't everyone be like Shakira? She's donating $40 million dollars to areas in Latin America stricken by natural disasters. She's also going to donate money to help the children of these areas going forward.
Talk about giving back. The people she's going to be helping are probably the same people who buy her CDs, go to her concerts, feed and clothe her. I think it's AMAZING that she is putting her fame and fortune to good use.
Can you imagine if every celeb did?

That's awesome that she did that!

I watched Richard Simmons on TV say that if you give him the name of a rapper, he can give you the name of his or her charity. I think virtually all celebrities donate to something, though only a handful to the extent that Shakira does. Offhand? Sandra Bullock made several high-profile $1 mil donations to UNICEF after the tsunami in SE Asia and then Katrina. And of course, Angelina Jolie gives very generously as well. All these actresses are terrific role models -- beautiful, intelligent and not allowing fame to define them, rather, taking control of their fame, using it for good. In contrast, a celebrity like Pamela Anderson, a big PETA supporter, does more harm than good. She could give away her entire fortune, but it will never make up for the harm she has done to her fans. As a media icon, her unabashed flaunting of her surgically enhanced assets have encouraged countless young women to want to do the same, and underscored the message that women's value is primarily in their physical attributes.
